TAHUA ISLAND SEALS - MARCH 2019
An epic day aboard the Bay Explorer adventuring above and below the waterline of the dramatic obsidian rich coastline of Tahua Island, Bay of Plenty. Starting the day in the shallow waters of the Southern side of the island, we came across a small colony of 10 New Zealand Fur Seals thermoregulating and moving around aimlessly in the water. Their relaxed state and their confidence in numbers allowed us to experience these amazing marine mammals without drastically altering their natural behaviours.
